Queen Anne’s County was selected for the press event for State Farm
Insurance to make their donation to expand the SmartDrive Campaign
throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore. In 2004, the Delmarva Broadcasting
Company, CEO Peter Booker, founded the SmartDrive Campaign to reward
young drivers for their knowledge and use of “good driving” skills out
of concerns for many young drivers killed in auto crashes. In 2008,
Kent, Queen Anne’s and Wicomico counties were the first in Maryland to
initiate the campaign so our young drivers could receive recognition for
their safe driving efforts and knowledge of Maryland law. SmartDrive is
an on line skills and knowledge module open to all young drivers between
the ages of 16-18. Queen Anne’s County High School won “SmartDrive
School of the Year” for their participation in the campaign. Terry Ober,
Traffic Safety Coordinator has made SmartDrive a competition between Kent
County High, Queen Anne’s County High and Kent Island High schools with
support from school officials and our local businesses. “Some of the
prizes won by our teen drivers include IPods, Laptop computers and
concert tickets” stated Peter Booker. For more information, visit
